Cosmic Update

By Sam August 30, 2010.

From 12 – 15.08.10 saw the 2nd  World Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships take place, this time in Berlin, Germany.

64 of the best teams from polo scenes across the World, including North America, Australia and many European capital cities, came together to battle it out for the ranking of World No.1in hardcourt bike polo.

Cosmic³, who have already had a great summer by being crowned UK Champs as well as runners up at the European Champs, were present at the WHBPC to rep Carhartt and European polo as well as show the Polo World some cosmic magic.

However, the cosmic boys, Mat, Tom and Todd, didn’t have an easy tournament start, due to having fixtures with Machine Polotics from Chicago (the eventual tournament runners up) as their 2nd game on day 1 and one of Germany’s No.1 teams, The Candy Coloured Clowns, first thing on the morning of day 2 in heavy rain. But cosmic got the results they needed to move into the top 32 for day 3 which was the knockout stages. Despite an opening game close loss to the North American champs, The Odds, by day 3 cosmic had found their groove and were beating big teams all the way to finally finishing 7th, which was the highest ranking UK team and 1 of 5 Europeans in the top 10. Results the confident Americans thought Europe could not achieve.

Overall, cosmic had an awesome time and gained many new friends and fans of the cosmic vision.

The final top 3 ranking results were as follows…

World Champions – The Beaver Boys – Milwaukee, USA, Runners up – Machine Polotics – Chicago, USA, 3rd – L’Equipe – Geneva, Switzerland

Next up Cosmic v2 (the new team with Rupert instead of Tom) came 5th at last weekends London Open, which wasn’t a bad result considering it was the first time Todd and Matt had played in their new format with Rupert.

Cosmic³ got a great win against the USA team who finished 2nd in the Worlds, but they got knocked out by L’Equipe, the Geneva team who beat us in the final at the Euro’s….annoying!

Cosmic³ European Championship

By Sam July 29, 2010.

Carhartt sponsored Bike Polo Champs ‘Cosmic³‘ just got back from this weekend’s EHBPC finals in Geneva where 48 teams from all over the continent came together for the second European Championships. Cosmic finished in 2nd place – losing in the final to home team and reigning champions L’Equipe.

We had the game at 4-4 after half an hour of play and we were peppering their goal with shots right to the end, but those guys are strong and fast and sadly we just missed out“.

In Limited edition Cosmic x Carhartt T-Shirts, all 3 Cosmics played out of their skins and put on one hell of a show.

I think it is the best we have ever played, both as individuals and collectively as a team“.
