• ‘Fixed’ Launch Party, if you missed it, you missed out!

  ‘Fixed’ officially launched itself on the 21st of June within the walls of the Carhartt Warehouse, located in the uber posh, star studded, Hackney.
  The party wasn’t to be missed and had a spectacular turn out. Which shows that is really is the start of something special.

  The party was a perfect way of getting things off to a great start. Located in the heart of London’s East End, Fixed Gear LDN and some would say, UK fixed gear culture Fanatics, cyclists and people who are just curious came to show their appreciation, enjoy the ‘Bootleg Sessions 2′ Premier and take part in trackstand and Pisumo competitions.

  ‘Fixed’ Magazine prides itself on bringing the fixie culture to an international audience and giving maximum accessibility. Portraying the lifestyle and culture of fixed gear riders world-wide.

  It first issue is available in paperback for free in all Carhartt stores, but be sure to get here quick as they go out as quickly as they have come in. • The Four Aces @ The V&A

  In the 1960’s Mr. Newton Dunbar came to the UK from Jamaica and founded the first Reggae-oriented music venue’s called ‘The Four Aces Club‘, which for some 33 years was home to the most influential black music and musicians to date. It introduced new music genres to the UK like; Reggae, Ska, Jazz and Soul performed at the time by artists like Desmond Decker, Jimmy Cliff, Count Shelly, Ann Peebles, Percy Sledge, Ben E King Billy Ocean and many others. This gave the club authenticity to attract artists like The Clash, Chrissie Hynde, Bob Marley, The Slits, Sex Pistols, Marc Bolan and Bob Dylan who were heavily influenced by the infectious pulsating rhythms! It pioneered the early indoor Rave scene during the days of Acid House music in the middle 80’s. Despite its success it came under fire from the local Police and was forced to close its doors in the late 90’s due to a compulsory re- possession ordered by the local Authorities to make way for the regeneration in Hackney for the fourth coming Olympics in 2012.

  

  This free two day event is called ‘The Motown Weekender’ July 5th-6th, featuring Talks from the Supremes, screening films like ‘Standing in the Shadows of Motown’ and other films along with exhibitions and various feature’s.

  ‘Legacy in the Dust’ will be screened on the 6th of July and they will also be exhibiting a still exhibition featuring stills from the film original hand drawn posters and flyers etc.

• End Of The Line host’s Meeting Of Styles

  On 7th and 8th of June, End Of the Line with Tiger Beer, G-Shock and Rockstar along side Carhartt Europe brought - for the very first time - Meeting Of Styles to the UK.

  The tour continued across Europe and took some UK bod’s with them.
  BIG BIG BIG up’s go to Probs, Bonzai, Replete, Sune, Rocket and Rota, who went out there, TT and TPN who all smashed the pasty so hard there was hot pasty filling on everybodies faces.

  BIg Up’s to all the artists who painted at the UK events:
  Snug, Probs, Insa, Bonzai, Lovepusher, Xenz, Busk, Alex Martinez, Replete, Sune, Sares, Skire, Keen, Tobe, Beat, Bamke and Alfa and all artisits ant all the events across the continent. A real treat to see such amazing talent grace the walls and trains of Shoreditch, East London and Europe.

• Jon Lawrence at the Manchester Store…

  After the Success of Guy McKinley we have a new exhibition of works by local northerner, Jon Lawrence at the Carhartt Store Manchester.

  Opens in store on Saturday 21st June.

  John Says “I believe my work should challenge traditional ideas, habits and assumptions. My concerns with the loss of humanity and childhood memories within society are preserved as three dimensional objects, robust, tactile and purposefully imperfect.
  I use the traditional techniques of slip casting and Silversmithing to express my interest in objects with integrity and character. Found at farmers’ auctions, charity shops or from my own collection I cast these antiques making clay replicas, manipulating and fusing them together adding transfers, lustres and graffiti-like scrawls.”

  So get yourself down to the Manchester Store and grab a piece of Jons work for a great price, both Radio & Trainer available to buy for £450 & £55 respectively…

• Fixed Magazine Release Party at The Carhartt Warehouse

  It all kicks off in the Carhartt Warehouse in Hackney, from 5pm THIS SATURDAY!!!!

  Please bring your own locks and chains etc as there is NO allocated space for bikes. We cannot be held responsible for the safety of your bi-cycles.

  On the night there will be wee competitions, a film preview and booze all courtesy of The Carhartt Warehouse.

  This is the first magazine of its kind and is still in its infancy. So come down and be a part of something really special. Its promises to be a great night if you’re a fixed freak or just a bit bike-curious or just want to come hang out.

  Please don’t drink and ride. (But if you do, make sure it’s your bike and you adhere to the Highway Code at all times!)

  ReCoat opened their latest exhibition, X, last Friday, was another well supported show. Once again Carhartt and Red Bull helped the guys out to make it a cracker of a night. X is the bringing together of 10 different artists from all over the globe:

  ASKEW, EJEK, GAZMAK, JOHN GRIDER, KATIE MACKINNON, KIRSTY WHITEN, MAYBE, REKOR, SUZYQ, SWAMPDONKEY
